It is always billed as quite an achievement once you have reached that golden milestone. But in the past, it was quite rare for all the correct numerical and financial reasons. Years ago, it could take months before you could earn a hundred dollars or a hundred or more in the currency you are familiar with. But today, people think nothing of spending 100 bucks in a single day. It is not as though they have gone and blown it, it’s just that the money really doesn’t buy as much as it could in the golden old days.
Give or take the inflationary factors and geopolitical considerations, it is possible for certain sectors of the global population to come out of the supermarket with two full shopping bags as opposed to a handful of goodies or essentials from the local corner shop. Also, you could look at this milestone the other way round. Years ago, it was quite common for people to reach a truly advanced age, and among those that did, there were those who easily surpassed the age of one hundred. For a variety of socioeconomic factors, it became far less common in the last hundred years or so.
But as society’s quality of life improves, the scales are being tipped in favor of the 100 or more milestone once more, so much so that it is no longer considered to be such a remarkable achievement but more a case of it being expected. If you have not reached the age of seventy, for instance, through no fault of anyone else but your own, you are considered to be a failure. You could have done a few practical things with your life to easily pass this mark. And the men and women that go into the eighties and nineties, even further, are looked up to by others as successful role models, living embodiments of examples well worth following.
You look a little closer at those numbers on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, and you may find numbers worthy of following. It all depends on the subject matter. 50,000 followers or likes under a trending celebrity’s platform is taken for granted as being a matter of course. But 100 Insta followers for one lone work from home chef or green garden and vegetables exponent, getting her fingernails gritty in hard work, will be considered to be a modest achievement well worth celebrating among peers.
The milestone reached could be indicative of at least, say, forty new customers. The balance of this 100 could very well be converted into full-fledged customers later on. These are the folks who still need some convincing to take that leap of faith to trust the goods or services of the humble entrepreneur who has been working so hard to present to them something really worthwhile and of value to their lives, so much so that it could help them to live a longer, happier and healthier life.
